Sleeping Next to the Atlantic, Properly

Blackout, acoustics, the mattress and the air: the four things that decide whether a room by the sea delivers real sleep.

Darkness

Every room has solid wooden shutters inside the windows and lined curtains on top. Close both and the room is dark at noon.

Sound

The sea is a good noise; gulls at 6 AM are not. Our ocean-facing rooms have double glazing behind the shutters, so you choose what you hear.

The bed

Mattresses are medium-firm, made in Casablanca, and turned every season. A softer topper and a choice of pillows are a message away.

Air

The Atlantic keeps the town cool, so most nights need only an open window. There is quiet air conditioning for the few that don't.
